Sterling Silver Nickel Free Rings

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to nickel free stainless steel?

I just got my nose pierced and suddenly (meaning 2 days later) started to see an allergic reaction. It’s bumpy and blister-y much like when I would wear my belt/necklace etc.

Is it still possible to have an allergic reaction to nickel free stainless steel? I changed it to a sterling silver ring. Should I see what happens with that or should I take it out and realize I shouldn’t have a pierced nose?

Thanks.

This is highly unlikely.
Possibility #1 is a reaction to an external agent such as cleansers, ointments, makeup, even your own sweat, getting into the piercing.
Possibility #2 is that the stainless steel ring contained nickel, i.e., it was mislabeled, purchased from a nonreputable or careless company, etc.

Please talk to your piercer; he/she may have ideas about what caused your reaction and what types of jewelry you can try. You don’t want to have to remove your piercing after paying for the procedure and the jewelry unless you have to!
