why do these 00g tunnels look like this?

Well Ive been looking on ebay for new 00g tunnels since my piercing store overprices everything, and its all crap anyways. My ears keep getting irritated in the silicone plugs and I need new ones,
anyways I came across these earrings… Im dont even think I want these ones, but Im curious, why is the metal like that? like holes all in the middle? does it serve any purpose or just to make it look cooler?

Just to make them look cooler, I think if someone was to get them though, that they should wait till the ear is completely healed.. Cause I’m thinking it might form/heal weird.
