Where can I find liquid silicone to make rubber bracelets?
I want to use a mold to make my own rubber band bracelets so I’m trying to think of what to make them out of that will stretch and not brake and isn’t toxic. I was thinking liquid latex or silicone, but there’s none at my local craft store, let alone in bright colors. Any advice?
Two part silicone molding material is an industrial product and you will have to contact sources like GE that make the stuff in order to find distributors. They can also give you advice on coloring. Silicone can be had in Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) form that requires solvent venting (not in a closed mold), 2 part, and oven setting form which is what commercial products are made from. You will also have to talk to manufacturers about elasticity because some silicone products are intended to not be elastic for precise mold copying.
Liquid latex requires venting to outgas the ammonia that keeps it liquid and thus requires some care with making the molds. It also is amber when dry/set, which will make color choice limited.
