Men’s Wedding Bands and Rings
Anyone who has ever spent time shopping online for men’s wedding bands and rings has probably wondered, “What is the difference between a wedding band and a wedding ring?”
After all, they are both worn on the left ring finger, both symbolize marriage, and both are available in a variety of metals and designs. When I asked some friends of mine if they knew the difference, it seemed like everyone had a different theory. So I posed this question to a jeweler I know, and was surprised at his answer.
“There is no difference,” he said, “they’re one and the same.”
Well, that settles it. It’s interesting how many people are convinced that there is really a difference between a men’s wedding band and rings. It used to be that a wedding “band” was made only of plain gold, in a traditional domed design. So it may be that jewelry makers decided to differentiate their more unique styles by calling them “rings” instead of “bands”. Who knows?
One thing is for sure, men’s wedding bands and rings have changed dramatically over the past several years. Gone are the days when men had their fiancé pick out a nice gold band. Today’s grooms are definitely part of the decision.
In addition to the more traditional yellow and white gold rings, men can choose from a variety of alternative and industrial metals like tungsten, titanium, palladium and stainless steel. Designers have created a wide range of engraved, carved, beveled and two-toned looks that have changed the way men look at wedding bands.
Instead of wearing rings that come from a collection of men’s wedding bands and rings, some men are choosing to wear non-traditional rings as wedding bands. Unique and alternative choices include Celtic rings, religious rings, tribal rings, dragon rings and even some biker rings. Many couples choose matching rings from an alternative ring collection and wear them in place of traditional wedding bands. This highly personalized approach to wedding jewelry is a relatively new concept which is quickly taking hold across America.
