How would you have destroyed the one ring in the Lord of the Rings?

Would you have walked all the way to morder? I keep looking for “cheats.” Why couldn’t Gandalf have gotten the eagles to drop it in the fire? Maybe the elves should have encased the ring in a brick or something so no one could wear it while they were taking the ring to mordor? Any other ideas?

Just a thought, but I think giant eagles flying into Mordor might have been noticed…..and shot down by Orcs maybe? (After the Ring was destroyed, the eagles were able to go in and get Frodo and Sam because Sauron’s armies fled the scene.) Gandalf couldn’t take the Ring because it would have been too dangerous in a wizard’s hands, even though his intentions were good. The brick idea is not a bad thought except that bricks can be broken, and I would guess that it would be harder to carry and conceal a brick than a little ring. Frodo was able to get the Ring to Mount Doom because Sauron didn’t think that anyone who found it would actually try to destroy it…..it was unconceiveable to him that his enemies wouldn’t try to use it. I’m not sure that there was a better way to destroy it because Sauron would have been looking for anything obvious.
