If i cut back on the dosage will Nyquil not leave me drowsy in the morning?

the last time I took Nyquil it worked like a charm when I was trying to go to sleep with a bad cold, but the next day I was so tired all day that I could barely move. I have a bad cold and am wondering if I cut back on the dosage will it not be so detrimental to me in the morning?
