Citizen Analog Aqualand Watches (for divers, part of promaster series)

I wish to take a closer look at the Citizen Analog Aqualand watches (or Analogue Aqualand) today. We, at CreationWatches.com carry most of the models in this range namely the AL0050-06E, AL0050-57E, AL0050-57L, AL0050-06L, AL0050-57A, the mid-size AL0024-57E, BJ2040-04E, BJ2040-55E.

Ok, I know I just bored you with the long list of model numbers. But you read it instead of skipping it, so it’s not my fault.

Alright, let’s get to the point here. The ‘Analog’ part in the name, you might have guessed, indicates that these Aqualand watches are completely analogue i.e. there is no digital display as in the other Aqualand watches (e.g. the JP2000-08E, JP1010, JP1060, hyper Aqualand etc. series). But don’t be fooled by that and think that these are then just normal watches which display only time (and perhaps a chronograph on some models). They all have depth meters and can use used to measure the depth of the dive. There isn’t an Aqualand that doesn’t have a depth meter – part of the reason what makes Aqualands the most loved diver’s watches. In fact, the Analog Aqualand series is the first diver’s watches series equipped with an electronically integrated depth meter in an analog display. Now, how awesome is that? Analogue purists love these Aqualands for obvious reasons. I have to say I am one of them. I love digital watches, nothing against them and I believe they have a place and purpose (like the Casio Protrek watches – I can’t image an Analog watch having and displaying all those functions), but when it comes to watches that make my heart skip a beat – invariably they are analog.

As you can see this beauty has an extra hand for depth display. The depth can be measured up to 55 meters. It has simultaneous display of time, current depth and maximum depth which is essential for any diving watch. To top that, it features a warning system for safe diving which includes surfacing speed warning system (alarm sounds if you are surfacing too fast ) and exceeding maximum depth warning system (alarm sounds if you exceed the maximum depth). Of course, you can set the target maximum depth in the watch beforehand. Citizen has also cleverly used different colored hands for different functions.

Apart from the BJ2040-04E and the BJ2040-55E, all the other Analog Aqualands are battery operated. A typical battery lasts for about 2 years. The watch features a low battery warning system (so you don’t have to worry about the battery dying when you are underwater). The BJ2040-04E and the BJ2040-55E are eco-drives which mean they are powered by light. But you still have to make sure they are sufficiently charged before diving. They also feature a low-charge warning system so you can be sure that the watch will be operational for the dive. All watches have a uni-directional bezel which can also be used to measure elapsed time underwater.

Setting up and using the functions of the watch is quite easy. Of course the watches come with a detailed manual in multiple languages which clearly explains all the functions and how to use them.

Sadly there aren’t many analog Aqualand watches out there in the market since Citizen has stopped the production of the AL series. So grab one while you still can. These beauties not only work great underwater, but also look great on the wrist.
